What Shopping Local Means to Me
Now more than ever, the adage “Shop Local” is important to practice in order to maintain the vibrant community of Fenelon Falls. We asked some of Fenelon’s local businesses to tell us what “Shop Local” means to them as we head into the season of holiday shopping and gift-giving; read on to see what they have to say.
“Shopping local means Santa Day and Easter Eggstravaganza. It means a beautifully decorated town with rich activities, events, and spaces. It means food on every table, and sports for kids who want to play them. It means a community coming together to support each other during times of crisis. It means searching locally for what I need before going elsewhere, and sometimes it means waiting a few days to get what I want, or buying something comparable, but it is worth it. Shopping local means community. Shopping local is a rich vibe, and Fenelon has got it!!”
-Julia Taylor, Country Cupboard
“The small business community, especially the hospitality sector, has been devastated by the impacts of COVID-19 - around the globe, and here at home. Investing now in the survival of small businesses in Kawartha Lakes will pay off for our community when we begin our collective recovery.”
-Mat Renda, Fenelon Falls Brewing Co.
”Shopping local means everything to our businesses and our small town. We pride ourselves on bringing one-of-a-kind, affordable fashion to our Butterflies. Our community is amazing at supporting one another and as a business owner and community member I am so grateful for that! Shopping locally allows businesses to employ people in our community and to help support new development and community-minded events. As they say, ‘You can’t buy happiness but you can buy local and that’s kind of the same thing!’”
-Natasha Clements, The Butterfly Boutique
