English Students at Fenelon Falls Secondary School Enjoy Winter Life in Fenelon Falls
Submitted by Roger Johnson
Winters in Fenelon Falls offer a unique experience for the local teens. This year has been especially different in light of the recent lockdown, but students in Mr. Johnson’s grade 9 English class have determined to make the best of the situation.
For the most part, outdoor activities have not been impacted at all. Jackson Champion has been spending his time exploring the local trails with his best friend, Ty. However, he also takes time indoors for “playing video games and relaxing.”
Lily Johnson has also made a concerted effort to spend time outside. She can often be found going for walks “with the boy down my street. We bring our dogs and let them play. It’s nice to hang out with somebody the way I did when I was a kid.” Lily’s outdoor excursions also highlight the importance of keeping pets active in the winter. She adds that she often lets her dog play “for an hour or so before we have to go home.”
Ryan Stocks has also taken time to appreciate the winter months, but also looks forward to warmer days. When asked what he likes to do in the winter, he states he likes to “have hot chocolate, make campfires, and ruminate over the summer.”
With locals looking for new activities and opportunities, it might be wise to look to the younger generation for inspiration over the winter. They have shown that no matter the season, there is always time to enjoy the simple things in life, when they are not hitting the books, of course.
