We’ve had lots of new businesses join our Chamber in the last few months, and we wanted to get to know more about what they have to offer. Our amazing tourism ambassador interviewed these businesses, and for the next few weeks we’re going to run a series where we feature those interviews. This week, we’re talking about Duncan Autobody Service + Richwood Contracting Inc!
Duncan’s Auto Service
1. How long have you owned your business?
23 years
2. What was the inspiration to start your business?
I was tired of working for other people and not having control over the quality of parts and services offered. It was really important to me to offer the best service at the best prices and build a shop of reliable, honest and well trained technicians.
3. What is your favorite part of being a small business owner?
I truly like helping people and when a customer comes in with a problem that seems overwhelming or impossible, we enjoy the challenge of finding the most affordable, reliable solution. Life can be challenging and we work very hard to make sure that our customers can rely on us to take care of their vehicle so they have one less thing to worry about.
4. What do you wish more people knew about your business?
We can work on their under-warranty vehicles; they don't have to go out of town to their dealer. Also, some customers only come in for oil changes and to have their summer or winter tires put on, not knowing that the shop offers complete automotive services, including new tire sales, air
conditioning maintenance, alignments, state of the art diagnostic services and mechanical repair to all makes and models of cars and small trucks.
5. Who is your biggest supporter?
Some of our customers have been supporting us since day one, twenty two years ago. The vast majority of our customers return again and again over the years. We appreciate their loyalty and work hard to keep it.
6. What are you most proud of about your business?
We always invest in the most professional tools and equipment on the market. We also invest in the future by taking on co-op students and apprentices so that we can build the next generation of excellent automotive services technicians. We are proud to have the trust of our customers and we always welcome the opportunity to grow.

Honest and professional.

Richwood Contracting Inc
1. How long have you owned your business?
Rick has been in the building trades for over 35 years. We have been an authorised dealer for Mirage Retractable screens for over 12 years.
2. What was the inspiration to start your business?
Rick became a carpenter at a young age after going to George Brown college. Then someone approached us about the Mirage opportunity, and we saw it as a niche market item. I then left my job 3 years ago to join our company on a full time basis.
3. What is your favourite part of being a small business owner?
By far the best part is that we meet so many nice people and help them solve some issues they are having with air flow in their house. We love making people happy every day.
4. What do you wish more people knew about your business?
Our retractable screens can be installed on almost any door. We are a solution for a screen door where someone doesn’t want to use a traditional storm door or where no other screen will fit.
5. Who is your biggest supporter?
We have many window and door companies that call on us for their screen door needs because traditional storm doors will void the warranty on a new front entryway.
6. What are you most proud of about your business?
We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service. We answer the phone with a live person and follow up very quickly. When we are in field installing we make sure the customer understands the installation before we go ahead and then provide professional installations every time.
