It’s the End of Summer for our Tourism Ambassadors

As summer comes to a close, we are so sad to be saying goodbye to our summer students as they head back to school this fall! Our Tourism Ambassador program runs from July until the September Long Weekend every summer, in this position they promote local businesses on social media, provide tourism information to visitors, and represent Fenelon Falls. We asked them a few questions to recap their summers;

What is your favourite story from your summer as a TA?

Lyla: This summer was full of many amazing memories so it was difficult to just choose one! However, there was one incredible woman that I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with, her name is Lucille and she was turning 105 this year. She started boating on Lake Couchiching as a child and still continues to get out on the water today. She enjoys boating the Trent Severn Waterway to Fenelon Falls with her son Charles (who is the captain!). It was amazing to learn her life story and see her still enjoying the waterway today!

What was your favourite part of being a TA?

Danielle: I enjoyed being able to to talk to so many different people, like the boaters participating in the Great American Loop starting in Florida and venturing all the way to the Great Lakes before returning back through the United States to Florida again! I also loved meeting all the animals that visit Fenelon Falls, especially those that reside on a boat! As well as picking up garbage around town, I liked being able to see the help I was providing to the community.

What new facts did you learn about Fenelon Falls?

Kendra: I didn’t realise that people from all over the world travelled to Fenelon Falls. We met families from Germany, England, France, Mexico and of course Americans travelling via boat on the Trent Severn Waterway! I have enjoyed being able to help international visitors become accustomed to my hometown and suggest some of my favourite spots for them to see.

What was your favourite event from this summer?

Ashleigh: This is such a difficult question to answer! I had so much fun helping with Moonlight Madness, the Voyageur Canoe Brigade, and especially the Movie Night at Lock 34. I would have to say that the Voyageur Canoe Brigade was one of my all time favourites, I was lucky enough to be able to lock through with eight giant canoes ranging in size from 20 to 36 feet long!

The Fenelon Falls Chamber of Commerce would like to thank our students for their hard work and enthusiasm this summer. The Tourism Ambassador Program was made possible through funding from Canada Summer Jobs & the City of Kawartha Lakes.
