An Insider’s Guide to Surviving the August Long Weekend in Fenelon Falls
It’s the Civic long weekend, and we all know what that means. If the first things that come to mind are traffic jams and packed stores, you’re not alone. But we’re here to remind you that the August long weekend is more than just a busy few days; it’s the kickoff to the final month of summer. It’s a time to soak up the sunshine, enjoy great company, and make the most of the season. With plenty of activities and events happening in Fenelon Falls, we’ve put together your insider’s guide to surviving — and thriving — this long weekend, so you don’t miss a moment of the fun.
What’s Happening:
Fenelon Falls Farmers’ Market – Aug. 1, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fenelon Falls Annual Car Show & Flea Market – Aug. 1 to 3 at the Fenelon Fairgrounds
Performances at the Grove Theatre – Happening all weekend in the evenings
Pub Night at the Legion – Aug. 1, 5 p.m.
Concerts in the park at Maryboro Lodge – Aug. 2, 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Live music from Brian Wride at The Locker – Aug. 3, 5:30 p.m.
Now, to give you a one-up this weekend, we’ve got a few insider tips to help you navigate the crowds and make the most of your time. First off, parking will likely be a bit more challenging as downtown streets and popular spots like the beach park tend to fill up fast. But here’s a tip: there’s a lesser-known parking lot tucked behind Lotus Indian Bistro that’s usually overlooked.
Speaking of busy streets, if you're looking to get around without the hassle, consider biking. If you don’t have your own, rentals are available right beside Lock 34 — just $3 plus $3 per half hour, or $30 for the day. It’s a convenient way to zip through town or enjoy a scenic ride along the Victoria Rail Trail, which runs alongside the beautiful Cameron Lake.
If you’re in the mood for something sweet (or just looking to cool down), Fenelon Falls has plenty of great spots to choose from. Grab a scoop of beloved Kawartha Dairy ice cream at Slices ‘n’ Scoops or The Little Pie Shack, enjoy soft serve and other frozen treats at White Cottage Cafe, or try the frozen yogurt at Country Cupboard. Whatever your pick, you can’t go wrong.
Last tip: Beat the summer heat by cooling off with a swim at Garnet Graham Beach Park, or by playing in the Splash Pad! With multiple access points along the beach park, you’re sure to find the perfect spot to take a dip or catch a wave.
No matter how you’re spending your Civic long weekend, we hope you have fun and stay safe! If you’re looking for advice for your visit or want to enjoy some of our amenities and activities, swing by the Tourism Office! We’re open all weekend from 10 am to 4 pm.
