Downtown Revitalization Efforts Continue with Tourism Opportunity Scan
The Downtown Revitalization Committee and The Fenelon Falls & District Chamber of Commerce are conducting a Tourism Accommodation Opportunity Scan of Fenelon Falls in the City of Kawartha Lakes from March to November 2026.
Bannikin, an Ontario-based consultancy, has been engaged to manage the project. The overarching project goal is to identify the top tourism accommodation opportunities in Fenelon Falls, as well as related destination-level recommendations to support tourism accommodation development in the short, medium, and long-term. This work will set a strong foundation for attracting tourism accommodation investment in alignment with community goals. As part of the project, key stakeholders will be engaged, including hosting in-person and virtual industry table talks with visitor-facing businesses, as well as one-on-one interviews with key informants.
The Tourism Accommodation Opportunity Scan is part of the final phase of a four-stage process for the Fenelon Falls Downtown Revitalization (DR) 2.0 Project, which aims to help improve the economic, physical and social well-being of the community’s downtown area. Following the guidance of the five-year Action Plan that was created by the DR committee in 2025, Chantal Soutar now leads the project into its implementation phase as the Downtown Revitalization Activation Coordinator. With the help of the Committee, the Fenelon Falls Chamber of Commerce, and Kawartha Lakes Economic Development, Soutar is ready and excited to work with Bannikin to learn how to help improve Fenelon Falls’ tourism sector.
