Globus Theatre’s 6th Annual Downtown Detective Trail Celebrates Bobcaygeon’s 150th Anniversary

Bobcaygeon, Ontario – Looking for a unique family adventure this summer? From July 27–31, Globus Theatre invites audiences to climb aboard its 6th Annual Downtown Detective Trail—an interactive mystery that celebrates Bobcaygeon's 150th anniversary with comedy, creativity, and plenty of clues to solve along the way.

Admission is by donation, making it an affordable outing for families, visitors, and locals alike. Advance reservations are encouraged.

In previous years, Globus’s School Of Dramatic Arts (SODA) have tied their theme to the theatre’s Murder Mystery dinner. This year, the audience can expect the same type of comedic adventure through town, with a fresh new twist. Artistic Director Sarah Quick explains:

This is a show you won’t want to miss! Visitors will still have a mystery to solve, but this time they'll be travelling back through the village's history. With a little (a lot!) of theatrical license, they'll uncover clues and explore moments from the past as they work to solve a mystery set somewhere within the last 150 years. It's a really fun way to celebrate Bobcaygeon's milestone anniversary while getting people out exploring the downtown area.

And what better way to go on an adventure than on a magic school bus!

This year, for the very first time, the Detective Trail is becoming a bus tour rather than a walking tour, improving its accessibility and giving guests a wider scope for their adventure - including a scene played out at Kawartha Settlers' Village.  

The Downtown Detective Trail is part of SODA’s annual summer theatre camp which gives young performers the opportunity to develop confidence, showcase their acting abilities, and build meaningful relationships both with each other and their communities.  

One of my favourite things about the Downtown Detective Trail is seeing the relationships that grow because of it. Some of the children who joined us when they were younger have come back years later as camp leaders. They get to be part of the creative process—helping with directing, putting props together, supporting the younger campers—and it's wonderful to watch them develop. In fact, one of our original campers is now studying theatre at university, which is incredibly rewarding to see.  

This interactive performance is great fun for the whole family, allowing the audience to see the sights of Bobcaygeon, try their detective hats on to solve the mystery, and support Globus Theatre’s charitable endeavours. Many of the stops along the trail also showcase local businesses and hidden gems to give visitors and locals alike a new perspective on the historic town of Bobcaygeon.
