Healthy Aging Workshop: Active Living Through Volunteerism
Did you know that seniors who volunteer not only feel good about giving back and helping others, but research shows that they actually have better physical, mental and social health outcomes than their non-volunteering peers?
The Fenelon Falls Seniors’ Club is hosting an Active Living Through Volunteerism workshop on Thursday, September 11 from 9:00 to 2:15. This event is a great way to learn about local organizations’ volunteer opportunities and requirements, as well as tips to help you prepare your volunteer profile. Presenters include:
The Grove Theatre
Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes
Fenelon Falls Food Bank/Salvation Army Community & Family Services
Community Care of Kawartha Lakes
Fenelon Court
Exhibitors from more than 9 organizations will also be available. Yoga movement break, refreshments and catered lunch are included.
The workshop will be held at the Fenelon Falls Seniors’ Centre (58 Murray St, Fenelon Falls). Cost is $5 for FFSC members; $10 for all others. Pre-registration by Tues. Sept. 9 at Noon is required as spaces are limited.
As an extension of the Healthy Aging Workshop Series, FFSC is offering the Safe Food Handler Certificate Course at significantly reduced cost to anyone who is interested. Previously offered by the HKPR Public Health, this course is now run through Sir Sanford Fleming College. Successful completion of the one-day course results in Safe Food Handler Certification (valid for 5 years).
