Juniper Park: Fenelon Falls Environmental Park
Nestled beside Langton Public School, Juniper Park spans 2.5 acres of dedicated green space in the heart of Fenelon Falls. This revitalization project is transforming the park into an inclusive, accessible, and environmentally conscious community space.
Planned enhancements include accessible walking paths, a variety of seating areas, sensory-friendly features, and nature-based play zones — all thoughtfully designed to preserve and celebrate the natural environment.
According to studies, Environmental Parks are Psychotherapy for Peace. In addition to reducing stress and improving the mood, spending time in nature has also been linked to improved cognitive function and creativity. Studies have found that being in nature can improve memory and attention, as well as increase problem solving skills.
The goal is to fully immerse yourself in the present moment, to relax, and let go of any stress or distractions. It is not exercising, hiking, or jogging. It is simply being in Nature, connecting with it through the sense of sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch.
To enhance the revitalization of Juniper Park- the region’s first designated environmental park- the Juniper Park committee has partnered with The Community Fund of Fenelon Falls (CFFF), a fund administered by the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes, along with Kawartha Works Community Co-operative (KWCC) and also received a grant from the Fenelon Falls C.H.E.S.T. Fund. Planned upgrades include the addition of a shade structure and creative equipment to better serve families and seniors.
This partnership allows donors to receive charitable tax receipts for their contributions.
Our fundraising goal is $75,000.00 which will support the cost and installation of these new features and benefit the entire community. This is in addition to the City of Kawartha Lakes commitment to the installation of the following: walking pathways (now installed), seating, waste/recycling receptacles, raised gardens, trees/shrubs, dedicated nature-based equipment & signage.
The shade structure will provide a place to rest, protecting park visitors from the elements and UV Rays. It will also provide a classroom/group setting, when required.
