Municipal Election and School Board Trustee nominations open May 1
Kawartha Lakes - Nominations for City Council and School Board Trustees open on May 1 and close at 2 pm on August 21, 2026.
Packages with all required forms for nomination are available for pick up in the Clerk’s Office, located at City Hall, 26 Francis Street in Lindsay. The completed forms are to be hand-delivered to City Hall during an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk. To file a nomination for the Office of Mayor or City Councillor, 25 endorsement signatures of Kawartha Lakes electors must be collected on the prescribed form.
Candidates and third-party advertisers for the Kawartha Lakes 2026 Municipal Election can book an appointment to file their nomination or registration through the Kawartha Lakes Election Candidate Nomination appointment booking system. Candidates and third-party advertisers should book an appointment to ensure quick service, minimize wait times and reduce crowding. Nominations for City Council, including:
Mayor: Elected at large.
Councillor: Eight Councillors, one elected from each ward. Ward maps are available at www.kawarthalakes.ca/wardboundaries.
Nominations for School Board Trustees, including:
Trillium Lakelands District School Board Trustee: Five trustees to be elected, each to represent the various wards across Kawartha Lakes.
Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board Trustee: One trustee to be elected to represent all of Kawartha Lakes.
Conseil scolaire Viamonde: One trustee to be elected to represent Sector 1 (Nominations accepted by appointment at the City of Oshawa Clerk’s Office).
Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir: One trustee to be elected to represent Region 11 (Nominations accepted by appointment at the City of Oshawa Clerk’s Office).
This year’s voting period is from Friday, October 16 to Monday, October 26, 2026, at 8 pm. Eligible electors will have the opportunity to vote at any time during the voting period by internet or telephone voting, with in-person voting assistance options available. Envelopes containing a PIN (personal identification number) with instructions will be mailed to all electors in late September or early October. There will be no paper ballots or proxy voting.
