New Consultant Pediatrician Coming to the Region to be Based at Five Counties

WHAT’S UP DOC?: Dr. Sean Godfrey is joining Five Counties Children’s Centre as a consulting pediatrician, providing a boost to pediatric care across the region. Not only will he see Five Counties kids and families, Dr. Godfrey will also support children in Peterborough, Northumberland, Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton through the new private practice he is establishing at the Five Counties site in Peterborough.

Here’s a dose of good news that is just what the doctor ordered to help boost pediatric care across the region.

Dr. Sean Godfrey will join Five Counties Children’s Centre as a consulting pediatrician starting in January 2024. He brings more than 25 years of experience in both the hospital and community settings. Dr. Godfrey will split his time supporting Five Counties kids and clients, while also seeing children with developmental conditions from across the region at his own pediatric practice he is establishing at the Five Counties’ Centre site in Peterborough.

"Dr. Godfrey is a well-respected and highly regarded consultant pediatrician who will enhance the specialized care available to our youngest citizens," says Scott Pepin, CEO of Five Counties Children’s Centre. "The partnership will directly benefit Five Counties kids and clients, but also support other families from Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County and Northumberland County whom Dr. Godfrey will see on a referral basis through his own pediatric practice."

Dr. Godfrey has worked extensively with children and adolescents with a wide range of physical and developmental needs over the course of his medical career. From 1999 to 2014, he was a staff pediatrician at Lakeridge Health in Oshawa. Between 2008 to 2014, he also served as the hospital’s chief of pediatrics. For more than 20 years, Dr. Godfrey has been director of KinderClinic, a children’s urgent care clinic he founded that is based in Whitby and Simcoe.

Coming to this region, Dr. Godfrey is excited about the partnership being forged with Five Counties.

"Five Counties Children’s Centre has a wonderful reputation for what it does for families in this region, and I look forward to contributing to that success," he says. "Over my career, I’ve been fortunate to have a private practice within a community setting that allows me independence and a chance to establish rapport with families. In both situations, it’s a joy to see children flourish and grow to reach their full potential."

Five Counties Children’s Centre provides speech, physio and occupational therapies, as well as other treatment services for kids and youth from birth to age 19 years. This past year, Five Counties served more than 6,200 children and youth in its region – the highest number of clients in its nearly 50-year history.
