What are your Designers “Falling for” this Fall?
Every fall we write the token answer to this question, but it never feels that way for us! Just when we think we’ve seen it all, one fall after another, there is always another gorgeous list of equally beautiful colours, textures, materials and new things you can expect to see in the world of decorating and design! Here are a few we are noticing already:
Terracotta
From tile to rich hues for walls, terracotta is in full swing. As Chris Van Lierop, Principal designer, says, “From shapes to patterns, we are loving how terracotta is showing up!” Terracotta has been around for a very long time for a reason. Its timeless quality as a material and colour continues to live on. In fact, we are seeing all sorts of jewel tones like cranberry, emerald green and sapphire blue, and it’s no surprise how well these all work with terracotta.
Character and Personality
We’ll soon be posting a blog story on the new definition of luxury, which has a lot to do with hand-made and a return to handcrafted. This direction infuses a space with character and personality to reflect who lives there. It’s about finding the soul of a room and displaying collections so that a room feels like it evolved over time.
Velvet and Vintage
Where fashion goes, décor is not far behind. With velvet and vintage owning the runway, we are not surprised to see the influence appear in home design. Embroidered details, rich colours and mixing eras allow us to pop vintage pieces into a space to create collected drama. Layering patterns is one way to do this; you can add a velvet pillow with a vintage-inspired throw and not worry about how the patterns are interacting. Darker shades create a mood, and nothing screams a mood like velvet!
Wood, Stone and Fur
We put all that in one headline! A simple upgrade of tossing a fur throw or sheepskin over a chair can lend that cozy feel and layer. Natural wood in deep, rich tones warms rooms and moves us from minimalistic spaces. Matte and low sheen finishes are a favourite as well. Stone is taking centre stage, and we are loving marble, travertine, soapstone and quartzite. Stone is versatile, and yet each unique way it is used can tell a visual story. For us as designers, we love how stone performs, offers durability and connects to our Kawartha Lakes exterior at the same time.
