The Grove Theatre is looking for actors with Shakespeare experience and strong comedic and singing skills. This production of Shakespeare’s comedy includes popular songs for the 1950s and 60s. This is the inaugural production of a new theatre company in Fenelon Falls, Ontario. Performances will take place in a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre. Learn more at www.grovetheatre.ca

Breakdown Of Roles
OBERON/THESEUS (Male identifying, any ethnicity, 30s-60s)
Oberon, King of the Fairies, demanding and powerful. Theseus, Duke of Athens, authoritative, smart, sexy. A master of language with extreme confidence. Should have an edge of danger but also needs to be compassionate and capable of forgiveness.
Strong Baritone who can sing R&B/Rock
(Song examples: I Put A Spell On You, Bring It On Home To Me)
TITANIA/HIPPOLYTA (Female identifying, any ethnicity, 30s-60s)
Titania, the Queen of the Fairies, extreme charm, power, and wit. She is complex, sexy, intuitive, and powerful. Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, a powerful, compassionate and intuitive authority figure. Must have excellent facility with language.
Strong Belter/R&B/Soul singer
(Song examples: You Don’t Own Me, At Last)
PUCK (Any gender, any ethnicity, 18+)
Master of the Revels and primary troublemaker. An enchanting, mischievous fairy who delights in playing pranks on mortals; must be very dynamic, great with language and physical comedy. Looking for a physical actor. Dance, tumbling, gymnastic skills a plus.
Non-singing role
HERMIA (Female identifying, any ethnicity, 20s-30s)
Beloved of Lysander and Demetrius, but only in love with Lysander. A strong-willed, impetuous, athletic, and kind-hearted young woman. Must have strong comedic language and physical comedy skills. Strong Soprano pop singer

HELENA (Female identifying, any ethnicity, 20s-30s)
Hermia’s devoted and jealous best friend. A romantic with sharp wit and physical insecurity. Must have strong comedic language and physical comedy skills.
Strong Alto/Mezzo-Soprano pop singer

LYSANDER: (Male identifying, any ethnicity, 20s-30s)
Sweet, funny, a little self-absorbed but full of willful impulses. Must have strong comedic language and physical comedy skills. Ability to play guitar is a plus.
Strong Bari-tenor pop singer
(Song example: This Magic Moment, Ain’t Too Proud To Beg)
DEMETRIUS (Male identifying, any ethnicity, 20s-30s)
Also in love with Hermia; of the two young men, the more rigid and uptight; the guy dad and mom would choose; certain sense of entitlement; capable of cruelty, but also learns forgiveness late in the game; handsome, athletic, excellent verse speaking and movement skills.
Strong Bari-tenor pop singer

EGEUS (Male identifying, any ethnicity, 40s-70s)
Hermia’s father; old-fashioned, furious, tense, powerful; loves his daughter but hasn’t realized that she’s not a little girl anymore.
No singing required
NICK BOTTOM (Male identifying, any ethnicity, 30s-50s)
The overconfident weaver chosen to play Pyramus in the craftsmen’s play for Theseus’ marriage celebration; enthusiastic; wants to play all the roles; likes to overact; a role for a character actor who is equal parts masterfully comedic and with classical chops.
Must be able to sing Doo Wop harmonies and pop

PETER QUINCE (Any gender, any ethnicity, 30s-60s)
The nominal leader and amateur playwright for the craftspeople attempting to present a play in celebration of Theseus’ wedding. Must have strong comedic language and physical comedy skills. Must be able to sing Doo Wop harmonies and pop
FRANCIS FLUTE (Male identifying, any ethnicity, 20s-40s)
A mechanic chosen to play Thisbe, a young girl in love. Must have strong comedic language and physical comedy skills.
Tenor who can sing Doo Wop harmonies, pop and ballads
(Song example: Only You solo)
SNUG (Any gender, any ethnicity, 20s-60s)
Sweet natured, strong comedic skills. Shy and soft spoken. Excited and yet nervous to be cast as the lion in the amateur theatre production.
Must be able to sing Doo Wop harmonies and pop
SNOUT (Any gender, any ethnicity, 20s-60s)
Originally chosen to play Pyramus’ father in the craftsmen’s play; literal-minded--a bit concrete. Guess what… ends up playing The Wall. Strong comedic skills.
