Colborne Street Reconstruction Project
Submitted by The Chamber of Commerce
It’s official! The Colborne Street Reconstruction Project will begin on March 1st. The work will take place on Colborne Street from Water Street to Bond Street. The scope of this project is to install new underground infrastructure (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and watermain), new sidewalks, curbs, and construct a new roadway. The final piece will be streetscape improvements such as furniture (waste receptacles and benches) and pedestrian walkways.
What does this mean for Fenelon Falls and those who use Colborne Street to travel to work, school or home? The good news is that the project has been divided into two phases in recognition of the busy summer season. Phase One will start in March and be completed by the May long weekend. The project will pause during the summer months and Phase Two will start after the September long weekend with an anticipated completion date of December 2021. There will be pedestrian access to the downtown businesses in the construction zone and many businesses have alternate entrances so you can continue to support our local shops and eateries throughout construction.
How can you prepare? Subscribe to the Project page on the City of Kawartha Lakes website where you’ll receive notifications of project updates. Plan a little extra travel time into your day in case there are traffic slow downs. Keep your eyes open for signage directing you to detour routes and alternate parking options. Have your favourite audio book ready to enjoy if you’re waiting in traffic.
This project is part of an exciting time in Fenelon Falls history as we build on the momentum of the past few years and the hard work of community members, businesses and organizations. There will be some mess and short term inconveniences but a year from now we’ll be moving forward to the next opportunity to continue to grow our vibrant village.
