Six More Weeks of Winter: COVID Safe Activities to Pack in Before Spring

On February 2nd, Wiarton Willy forecasted an early spring. With warmer weather just around the corner, you may be thinking ‘where did the time go’. With only 6 weeks left of winter, you may just want to pack it all in as much as you can. Thankfully we live in a beautiful area where there is no shortage of winter activities, and they usually begin right out our front door. From skating to snowshoeing to snowmobiling, and much more. The list below should help you narrow down your COVID-friendly bucket list of winter activities to do before spring is sprung.

Skating and Wine Flights at Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery

This is the perfect destination when looking for different ways to fill up a day with your bubble. Head up to the Muskoka Lakes for a beautiful drive and arrive at the Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery. Whether you are looking to skate the loop, rent out an ice rink, or snowshoe through the trails, this location has it all. They even have a small outdoor cafe open to social distance, grab a snack, or even a flight of wine. There are multiple fire pits around the ice loop to rent out and stay warm. You can finish off the day with a visit to the gift shop where you will find different wines, cheeses, meats, souvenirs, and more. Snowmobile the Lakes and Trails

In case you haven’t heard, Fenelon Falls is the hotspot for snowmobilers. The extensive trail system covers over 30,000km of trails all over Ontario. If you do not own a snowmobile yourself, hop on the back of one of your friends and go for a cruise. Cover the lakes, trails, and grab takeout from one of the awesome restaurants open in town. Make a New Friend on the Boardwalk at Ken Reid

One of the most popular parks in the area is Ken Reid Conservations Area. 10 kilometres of beautiful trails that take you over an accessible boardwalk, through meadows, forests, and stunning views. There is an abundant population of birds that may just say hello by feeding off of your hand. Bring your dog to the dog park, for both small and large pups.

Catch Your Dinner

The City of Kawartha Lakes is full of awesome ice spots in the winter time to catch your dinner. Head out to Sturgeon Lake, Cameron Lake, or even make a drive out to Lake Simcoe for a great day of fun and fishing. You might even get lucky and bring your catches from sea to table.
