The Garden Project: Small Gardens of Fenelon Falls
So far, along this journey, we have had the pleasure of highlighting the beautiful gardens at Cenotaph Park, around Maryboro Lodge, and introducing you to the team! Today, we want to highlight some of the smaller gems around town. Next time you’re out for a stroll, you’ll know where to spot these beautiful little green spaces.
And if you get lost… don’t worry! The Fenelon Falls Horticultural Society has just installed signs in each garden to help you find your way around. With this beautiful weather, a walk around town to see all of their hard work is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
The Anchor Garden
This little spot, number 1 on the map, is located near our beloved Garnet Graham Beach Park! The City of Kawartha Lakes put the anchor in many years ago, and we believe it belonged to one of the large boats in the area. This finely manicured space used to be quite overgrown, until the FFHS took charge 6 years ago! Today you can find plants such as Sedum, grasses, Russian Sage, Spirea and more.
The Sailboat Garden
Located in a perfect spot along the busy lock, this garden is a favourite for locals and tourists alike! Kids, pets, and many people can be seen posing in front of the “Sailboat Rock” for a beautiful photo. Don’t miss out, number 8 on your map!
Installed with the coordination of the Trent-Severn Waterway and Powerlinks, this beautiful garden lets everyone know just right where they are - Fenelon Falls! Come check out the shrubs planted here, which can sustain the strong gusts of Cameron Lake’s wind - all thanks to the “sailboat” rocks.

The Chamber Garden
After snapping a photo at the Sailboat Garden, you can walk on towards the Fenelon marquee and make a pit stop at another small spot in town, the Chamber gardens! Located outside the blue Tourist Office (or number 7 on the map), this garden has recently been revamped to allow for a better view for Chamber staff and visitors alike. The garden renovations have made the entrance inviting for everyone coming to town!
Old cedars were removed and large Empress Wu hostas took their place, along with sun loving perennials like Daisies, Echinacea, Bee balm, Astilbe, and Hydrangeas! On the shady side, you can find Hostas and native Foamflower.
The Lindsay Street Garden
The small but mighty Lindsay Street garden, number 6 on the map, was redone in the Fall of 2020 by the FFHS. The team planted Foerster Grass, Russian Sage, Sedum, Barberry Bush, Dianthus, White Tulips and Creeping Thyme. Some of the plants struggled in the early Spring when water was scarce, but have since established themselves and are looking luscious!
Calling all horticultural enthusiasts! As the gardens brighten and beautify the community, we want the community to be part of beautifying this project! Do you have a favourite garden around town, or perhaps a fond memory of time spent among the beautiful flowers and blooms? We would love to hear from you!
