"The YOUTH are UNSTOPPABLE, another World is POSSIBLE!"

Submitted by Sophie Kaloudas

On Friday September 24, young people from our town were chanting and marching on Water St. and Colborne St. Why?

The climate strike was part of a global movement #fridaysforfuture, in which students advocate for climate action by skipping school. Strikes were held all over the world in September 24th, including in Toronto, NYC, London, AND! Fenelon Falls! The march in Fenelon was held at 4pm so no skipping school for these youthful organizers. The students  were calling to #uprootthesystem, which means to stop the systems that are causing climate change, such as sexism and racism.  These problems are all closely tied. The Fenelon Falls strike/march was run by Friday’s For Future Fenelon Falls, which is the only climate striking group in Kawartha Lakes.  At the September 24th event, 20 strikers, including concerned families, seniors and one local merchant  marched down the main street, calling for climate action. Supporters signed an open letter to our MP Jamie Schmale calling for more climate action. The youthful organizers were Sophie Kaloudas, Lyla Verlient -Slykhuis, Anna Entzin- Telford, Sofia Entzin -Telford, Zoë McIntosh and Edie McIntosh.
