Wellness Connections Program Helping Older Adults Stay Healthy at Home

Staying connected and finding out about local programs and services isn’t always easy, especially for those in our community that don’t have access to the right technology. The Kawartha Lakes Ontario Health Team (KL-OHT) wants to change that.

The KL-OHT recently announced the launch of their reimagined Wellness Connections Program, which helps seniors get connected to local programs and services. The program also provides the option to sign up to their online learning platform, which provides various courses to help older adults learn how to stay healthy at home.

“The Wellness Connections Program has seen great success since the relaunch. People have been reaching out to learn about how to make healthy changes and to connect with local supports,” says Wellness Connections Coordinator Christine Keenan. “We hope this program will help older adults in our community make choices that have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.”

The Wellness Connections Program also allows participants to develop their own personal wellness plan to learn about healthy aging practices. Participants can take a number of online courses and learn about how topics like physical activity, diet and nutrition, sleep, fall prevention and more can all contribute to their overall health.

The Wellness Connections Program is designed for people aged 65+ to learn about healthy changes and choices to age well and to connect to local service providers offering supportive programs. The program can be accessed virtually through the KL-OHT website, or the team can also provide support over the phone, virtually, or in person. The KL-OHT also has a limited number of iPads to lend for those that wish to join the program, but that don’t have the right technology at home.

There is no charge for this program and new clients are always welcome. If you would like to refer yourself or someone else with their consent to the Wellness Connections Program, visit www.kawarthalakesoht.ca to complete the online referral form. You can also get in touch directly with the Wellness Connections Coordinator at 705-934-1439 or email the KL-OHT at info@kawarthalakesoht.ca.
