Almost 60,000 Raised To Send Kids To Camp
It was a record-setting year for an annual event that raises money for children and youth: for the first time in memory, the Dream Ball sold out. And the results show it!
The Dream Ball is an annual fundraiser to support children and youth, organized by BGC Kawarthas Foundation, with dinner, dancing, live music, and auctions. All 300 tickets for the 30th Anniversary Dream Ball sold this year, and the Foundation was able to raise more than $59,000.00.
Proceeds from the Dream Ball go to the summer camp funds at BGC Kawarthas Foundation (formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes Foundation) and the Kawartha-Haliburton Children’s Foundation (KHCF). The dollars are used to subsidize summer camp experiences for children and youth. The Dream Ball has been a tradition since 1994. For the first 25 years of the event, it was organized by KHCF; it was transferred to BGC Kawarthas Foundation in 2020.
”It was exciting to see so many new people get dressed up, and join us at the event,” says Amy Terrill, Executive Director, BGC Kawarthas Foundation. “We’re grateful to all of our guests, auction donors and successful bidders, and each of our sponsors – with their help, we’ll be able to send hundreds of kids to camp next year!”
Highlights of the event included:
A three-course dinner by Jack & Company Catering;
Music with a DJ and 8-member band from StereoFlavour
Live and Silent Auctions with almost 100 items; and,
A special presentation for the 30th anniversary, Stephanie Mackey of the Lindsay Dance Studio choreographed a dance that was performed by her classical ballet students to the music from the opera, The Pearl Fishers.
It’s a Dream Ball custom to choose a theme for each event. This year’s theme was Champagne & Pearls, creating an evening of simple elegance.
The 2025 Dream Ball will take place on November 15, 2025. To stay on top of news surrounding future Dream Balls, you can visit the BGC Kawarthas site at bgckawarthas.com and follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
