Apron Memories

An apron is like a woman. The bib is the bosom. The skirt is the lap. Like an apron’s human counterpart, it is the variations on these parts that make each one unique!!

Do you have memories of your “nonna” who snuggled you in her lap and made you the best biscotti, or the real pizza? Or do you remember your “oma” grosmutter who made you sauerkraut and bratwurst? Those childhood memories remain with us, - the good smells in the kitchen, snuggling in our mother or grandmother’s lap as she sang us a song and gave us a homemade cookie. She might even have dipped into her apron pocket for a hanky to wipe our tears or for a paper dollar bill or a quarter so we could run to the store.

Come and relive that experience. On Saturday, Oct 14 at 2 pm, at Fenelon Falls United Church, 123 Colborne St, Cathy Bevis will be the guest speaker at the Fenelon Falls Grannies for Grannies Fundraiser. Her personal collection of over 100 vintage aprons will be on display. Come for a delightful afternoon of nostalgia as Cathy gives us a lighthearted account of the history of aprons.

There will definitely be good smells and baking! Those Fenelon Falls Grannies for Grannies know how to serve up the decadent desserts! There will be carrot cake, there will be Chelsea buns, there will be chocolate brownies, profiteroles, giant chocolate chip cookies...is your mouth watering?? Lots more to enjoy...There will be door prizes! There will be an amazing raffle! including a fall art package, a tea basket, a handmade quilt to snuggle under with a good book to read.

Admission is by donation. Proceeds go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers Campaign. Guests are invited to wear or share their very own apron story.

If you want to reserve a table for a group contact Dana Bachman gdbachman@yahoo.com.
