Empowering local businesses for success: join us this Small Business Week!

Kawartha Lakes is excited to celebrate Small Business Week (SBW) October 21 to 25, 2024, shining a spotlight on the vital role local businesses play in our community. Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, creating jobs, supporting sports teams, giving back to local charities, and filling storefronts with unique products and services.

To honour their contributions, the community is encouraged to participate by visiting and recognizing their favourite local businesses. Throughout Small Business Week, participants can visit a local business, take a picture with the owner or staff, and post it on social media tagging @CityofKawarthaLakes and using the hashtag #smallbizweekKL. Small Business Week is our time to honour small businesses' contributions and show our appreciation for all they do.

Local business owners will receive a special postcard sent from Economic Development letting them know they’ve been selected as a "Favourite Local Business"—creating a meaningful way to thank these hardworking entrepreneurs and showcase the businesses that make our community vibrant.

“We are committed to shining a spotlight on the local businesses that form the heart of our community,” said Diane Steven, Manager of Kawartha Lakes Small Business Centre. “Small Business Week gives us the perfect opportunity to celebrate their hard work, innovation, and the vital role they play in shaping Kawartha Lakes”.

“Our local businesses are the backbone of Kawartha Lakes,” said Mayor Doug Elmslie. “Their resilience, creativity, and dedication drive our economy and strengthen our community. Small Business Week is a time to honor their contributions and show our appreciation for all they do.”

Kawartha Lakes encourages everyone in the community to get involved by shopping and dining locally, and sharing their favourite businesses on social media. Be sure to tag @CityofKawarthaLakes and use hashtags #smallbizweekKL and #kawarthalakes to join in the celebration and be entered into the gift basket draw!

Follow us on social media and help us celebrate the local businesses driving our community’s success.
