Farmers’ Market Open For Another Season!
The Fenelon Falls Farmers’ Market was established in 2011. It has had several locations throughout the town over the years and has tried many different hours of operation. We even tried having both a Friday and Saturday market for five years. I’m sorry to say that our Saturday market did not work out due to the lack of vendor and customer support. There is however three other local farmers’ markets in the area that run on Saturday (Lindsay, Bobcaygeon and Kinmount) and we are all members of Farmers’ Market Ontario which helps to support the local farmers and agriculture in our area, as well as giving our vendors the opportunity to be at more than one market.
Ten years ago the City of Kawartha Lakes offered us the location at Bond and John St, known to some of you as the “Old Arena Lot” to lease for the new home of the Fenelon Falls Farmers’ Market. Since arriving at this location we have grown our market from less than ten vendors to over 23 vendors at peak season. We have several items for customers to choose from such as local honey, maple syrup, fresh baked goods, preserves, Lamb, Organic Beef, wine, fresh locally grown produce, handcrafted items and much more.
Farmers’ markets help to stimulate tourism, as visitors are drawn to unique shopping experiences and the opportunity to sample local foods and learn about the source in which it comes from. The money spent at our farmers market stays within the community and helps to support the local economy its farmers and other small businesses. Our market also helps to safeguard agricultural land for future generations.
Farmers’ markets foster a sense of community by bringing together consumers, producers, and other community groups. It’s gives students, young children and adults a place to meet and learn who, where and how products are grown and produced directly with the producer.
Our market has grown over the years and is a success because of your support. So, thank you all for your dedication, smiling faces and support.
