Fenelon Falls Community Impact Tribute: Youth Volunteers at High Tea

Fenelon Falls is home to many individuals who have made significant contributions to our community and beyond. This space, put forth by Kawartha Works Community Coop, and supported by the Fenelon Falls Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to paying tribute to the people who have left indelible positive marks on our town through their dedication, courage, and altruism.

This Community Impact Tribute celebrates the dedicated young volunteers at Maryboro Lodge’s weekly summer High Teas.

There is something special about tea at Maryboro Lodge. It is more than a cup of tea and a place to sit—it is a tradition of hospitality, friendship, history, and community. A special tribute goes to the young volunteers who help make the tea such a welcoming and popular community tradition.

This community gathering at Maryboro Lodge is perhaps Fenelon Falls’ longest-running social tradition, dating all the way back to the 1830s. The Abbott sisters, who operated Maryboro Lodge from 1913 until it became a community museum in 1963, are best remembered for the teas they hosted under the ancient oak grove.

Giving their time, energy, and enthusiasm, these young people not only serve tea, set tables, and wash dishes, but they also bring a wonderful sense of warmth and energy to the occasion. Their involvement is also a beautiful connection between generations.

At Maryboro Lodge, young volunteers have the opportunity to learn from community members, hear local stories, and become part of a tradition that celebrates friendship and history, while learning valuable skills that will prove beneficial in their futures.

To our young volunteers: thank you for showing up, pitching in, and making a difference. Your willingness to serve is an inspiration, and your contribution helps ensure that the spirit of community continues into the next generation.

Today, we celebrate the young people who give their time and remind us that the future of our community is in caring hands.

The Community Impact Tribute is a way for us to celebrate the volunteers behind the events and programs that make our town such a special place.
