Globus Theatre Receives $200,000 Grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation

Globus Theatre, the professional theatre company serving the Kawartha Lakes, is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. This generous funding will be used to undertake vital repairs and upgrades to the theatre’s facility, ensuring that the theatre can continue to serve as a cornerstone of arts and culture in the Kawartha Lakes community.

The grant will support three key initiatives: replacing the theatre roof and curtains, purchasing and installing a new generator and propane tank, and upgrading to an energy-efficient lighting system. These improvements are crucial for enhancing the theatre’s infrastructure, extending its performance season, and increasing its capacity to engage and attract audiences.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for this significant support,” said Globus Theatre Artistic Producer James Barrett. “This grant will help us address critical needs and ensure that our theatre remains a vibrant and welcoming space for our community and visitors alike.”

The upgrades will address issues such as roof leaks that have impacted performances, outdated power systems that have led to cancellations, and an outdated lighting system that needs modernization. These enhancements will improve the theatre’s operational efficiency and enhance the overall experience for performers and audiences.

As a vital cultural hub in a rural community, Globus Theatre plays a pivotal role in providing accessible arts programming, cultivating creativity, and contributing to the local economy. The theatre attracts over 10,000 visitors annually and offers valuable opportunities for children, youth, and underrepresented members of the community.
