Kawartha Lakes: Your ultimate fall scenic drive destination
It’s no secret that Kawartha Lakes is a stunning destination to visit in the fall, and our new list of Kawartha Lakes Scenic Drives will help you make the most of the season.
The crisp air and leaves changing colours, paired with plenty of local food, pumpkin patches, artisan studios and cozy cafés, make a scenic drive through Kawartha Lakes a perfect autumn pastime.
To make your autumn trip planning easy, Kawartha Lakes Tourism has developed four new scenic driving routes featuring itineraries and tips to guide you through peak fall colours and roadside attractions. The new Kawartha Lakes Scenic Drives map and guidebook is available in both print and digital formats, including individual maps for each route and how to connect them all together.
The South Route, easiest to access from Toronto, includes stops in Omemee, Bethany and Lindsay. This driving route can be paired with a hike to the Fleetwood Creek Natural Area Lookout Trail for views of stunning landscapes.
The South East Route takes you along the shores of some of Kawartha Lakes’ most pristine bodies of water, all the way to Bobcaygeon. There’s no better way to enjoy the colours of the leaves reflecting off the lakes.
The North West Route takes you from Lindsay, up around Balsam Lake, and finishes in Fenelon Falls. Known as 'The Jewel of the Kawarthas', Fenelon Falls is home to local artisans, cafes, restaurants and a craft brewery in its historic downtown.
The North East Route is a great way to experience small town charm, taking you from Fenelon Falls to Coboconk, Kinmount, and Bobcaygeon. Along this route, you’ll find opportunities to stop at locations on the Arts & Heritage Trail.
“Kawartha Lakes has outstanding fall colours and signature experiences, seasonal events, attractions, local food and much more,” explains Laurie McCarthy, Kawartha Lakes Economic Development Officer – Tourism. “Our fall colours can be experienced by car using the new scenic driving routes, by water following our recently launched paddling routes, or by walking, hiking or cycling on one of our many trails. Whichever way you choose to explore Kawartha Lakes this fall, be sure to make the most of it by visiting a farmers market, stopping by a local bakery and shopping in our downtowns.”
