McHappy Day® on May 8 Will Serve Up Support For Five Counties Kids
It’s time to be McHappy in Cobourg and Port Hope, as McHappy Day returns this Wednesday (May 8). Part of the proceeds of sales this day will support Five Counties Children’s Centre and Ronald McDonald House Charities.
That's the message Five Counties Children's Centre is delivering ahead of McHappy Day® this Wednesday (May 8) when McDonald's® restaurants in Port Hope and Cobourg will be donating a portion of their sales to Five Counties and Ronald McDonald House Charities®.
“What do French fries, a McFlurry®, and a Big Mac® all have in common? On Wednesday, ordering one at a local McDonald’s will help kids get the life-changing treatment they need,” says Lyn Giles, Director of Fund Development with Five Counties Children’s Centre. “We’re very grateful to everyone at the local McDonald’s® locations for choosing us for this year’s McHappy Day®. Fundraising efforts like this allow us to serve more kids, ensuring they can get the care they need when they need it.”
Every year, McDonald’s® restaurants across Canada support local kids’ charities by collecting donations and dedicating a portion of sales on McHappy Day®. In 2023, McHappy Day® raised more than $7.5 million across Canada for Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC) as well as local children’s charities.
Since 2014, the McDonald’s® restaurants in Port Hope and Cobourg restaurants have raised over $145,000 through McHappy Day® for local kids’ charities and Ronald McDonald House Charities®.
Lisa Wilson, owner and operator of the McDonald’s® restaurants in Cobourg and Port Hope, says it’s a treat to be giving back to the community. “Every year, we look forward to McHappy Day® and are pleased to be supporting such a great organization like Five Counties,” she says. “We have an amazing team of employees in Port Hope and Cobourg, who look forward to serving our guests and supporting Five Counties and Ronald McDonald House Charities®.”
Money raised from McHappy Day® will go towards Five Counties’ Building Abilities For Life Campaign, which funds priority, high-demand services like speech therapy and occupational therapy in an effort to reduce long waiting times for these critical services. Five Counties Children’s Centre supports children and youth with physical, developmental and communications needs.
Ronald McDonald Houses® provide out-of-town families with a place to stay while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital. There are 16 RMHs across Canada, as well as 17 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms located within hospitals. In an average year, the RMHC network of programs in Canada helps to keep more than 26,000 families close to their sick child and the care they need.
