After suffering an immense amount of loss in a short period and struggling for years, I arrived in a dark place; a place of defeat, where I no longer cared whether I lived or died. During this time, I started to make some changes, desperately grasping for any bit of fun and happiness, however not in the typical ways one would think.

I sold my 2013 SUV and got a 2009 minivan. I had a plan and spent Christmas converting it into a mini camper alone in my driveway. As soon as I finished, I took off. I spent my 21st birthday roaming around in my weird little van with my dog, away from everything and nothing at the same time. After that initial trip, I continued my random adventures, ending up out west, standing on top of mountains, and even on the East Coast volunteering in disaster relief. What initially started as running away quickly became a source of much-needed happiness.

This collection of paintings is based on photographs I’ve taken on various trips over the last few years. They are about expanding your comfort zone, letting go, and finding accidental happiness on a journey to be anywhere but here.

This is Gerzymisch's first show at Colborne Street Gallery and we are thrilled to be showing this local, emerging artist.

Bio
Gerzymisch began painting classes in kindergarten. Upon entering high school, she enrolled in Lindsay Collegiate Vocational Institutue’s Advanced Placement Dual Art Credit Program and the Specialist High Skills Major Program for Art graduating first in her class. During this time, she completed a college visual arts credit, and participated in two juried student exhibits at the Kawartha Art Gallery winning multiple awards. After completing high school, Gerzymisch worked in branding and graphic design for Aberdeen’s Wool Company and Tangled Poets Yarn.

An avid traveler, she devotes much of her time to photography while away from home. Her collection of images inevitably translate to the painted surface. Finding inspiration in nature and candid shots of people, Gerzymisch’s preferred mediums include drawing, acrylic painting, and digital art.
