Winner Drawn for Soroptimist Quilt

Terry Guiel, Executive Director, Lindsay & District Chamber of Commerce, draws the winning ticket for the quilt raffled by Soroptimist International of Kawartha Lakes

On December 10th Mary Herr, Vice President of Soroptimist International of Kawartha Lakes, invited Terry Guiel, Executive Director of the Lindsay and District Chamber of Commerce to draw the winning ticket for the club’s quilt raffle.

The queen-size quilt was crafted by club members and offered for raffle to raise funds for club programs for women and girls in the community. Since 2011, the Kawartha Lakes club has provided $29,000 in Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards to 26 women. Over the last three years, the club has offered Dream it Be It Career Planning for girls in Grades 9 and 10 at two local high schools. The award-winning Girls of Action and Leadership (GOAL) program started in 2017 has helped girls in Grades 4 to 6 learn how to deal with life issues and develop an interest in physical activity. The Soroptimist Positive Influence Award has recognized the leadership of 48 girls since its start-up in 2012.

The winning ticket was purchased by Jacqueline Henderson of Peterborough.

Soroptimist International of Kawartha Lakes is a women’s volunteer service organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Founded in 2011, the club is part of Soroptimist International where more than 65,000 Soroptimists in 118 countries and territories contribute time and financial support to community-based projects that benefit women and girls. The Kawartha Lakes club is a registered charity.
