Giving Thanks

Submitted by Marina Hodson

As another Thanksgiving has come to a close, what is that you were thankful for? For many of us, this year may challenge us to find the things to celebrate, but there is always something to be thankful for if we take the time and effort to actually think about it.

Appreciation can be as simple as “thank goodness I am finally out of turkey sandwiches” or as profound as “I am blessed to have wonderful people in my life”. Any amount of gratitude has been shown to have direct benefits to our physical and mental health, improve our sleep and self-esteem and overall improve our relationships. So try to get into the habit of focusing on at least one thing you are grateful for each and every day and here is one of mine to give you food for thought.

I am thankful for the amazing communities I work and live in. Despite all of the challenges throughout 2020, we continue to try to support one another with patience and kindness. If you need any evidence of this, while we had to cancel this year’s fundraising events, when Kawartha North appealed to you to continue your support to our walk in clinics, you stepped up. Individuals and businesses have come forward with donations to ensure that their friends and neighbours will continue to have access to the much needed services of the local clinics. The Rotary Club of Fenelon Falls contributed $2,500 this week and I, for one, am thankful for the many hours of care this will enable us to provide to our community.

So I personally am thankful for you, each and every one of you who continue to make our community and amazing place to live – thank you.

Your friends at the Kawartha North FHT
