Leprechauns in Fenelon
I was out in my woods and what did I hear,
The faint sound of hammers, far but near.
What could be making this very strange sound?
In the woods I went deeper, to have a look around.
The tapping got louder, but I did proceed
And followed a trail, of shoes, to a tree
My trek had led me, to have a great shock
As I saw a wee fairy, playing a harp
I rubbed my eyes hard, I could not believe
Fairies in Fenelon? And I turned to leave.
Then suddenly a wee hand, pulled my shoe laces
And I fell to the ground, and saw three wee faces
Three little men, all dressed in green
They didn’t look pleasant, in fact, they looked mean
I closed my eyes tight, this must be a dream
But I was awake, so I let out a scream
My plan was to wail, like a fairy “banshee”
But they were not scared, and pulled me under the tree
“Stop screaming, “One shouted, we need your assistance
We lost our rainbow, and have come a long distance
I was fully awake, I was perfectly calm
In front of me, were three leprechauns?
“I’m John,” I’m Patrick,” “I’m Liam O’Sulllivan”
Will you please help us, to get home again?
I knew all of the folklore, their tricks and mischief
That a leprechaun is known, to be vicious
I trusted my instincts and invited them in
For bacon and cabbage, and a wee bit of gin.
With harps and fiddles, we danced till dawn
With these wee little fairies, my leprechauns
The sun not quite rising, and a plan made by all
We quickly spirited, away to the falls.
Tucked under the bridge, as if hidden in a cave,
I cried as the three, gave me a wave.
The sun did appear, and too a rainbow
And off they did fly, to where I don’t know.
I sat there awhile, to digest what I’d seen.
They were sweet little fairies, not at all mean.
And when I returned, to my home on Lakebreeze
I found shamrocks and fairies all up on the trees
It did indeed happen, it wasn’t a vision
And I felt satisfied in my final decision
To have helped these three strangers, and remain calm
Patrick John and Liam, my three leprechauns.
