An Update from Jardine Funeral Home & Cremation Centre
Submitted by Monica Bertrand-Jardine
As most are aware, funeral homes and their staff are essentials workers facing the current pandemic and the fight again Covid-19. We have watched as our neighbours in Bobcaygeon face this on an almost daily basis for the last three weeks. We pray for all funeral professionals and their staff on the frontlines caring for our recently deceased.
Rob and I, along with Julie Knox and Robert Blane, are currently working diligently to prepare and be ready in the event that our community starts to show signs of an outbreak. As with everything you read and see online, continue to be diligent with your hand washing, social isolation and distancing.

Community Care continues to offer Meals on Wheels service
Submitted by Graeme Morrison
During this difficult time, we’re pleased to share that Community Care continues to operate its Meals on Wheels service across the City of Kawartha Lakes.
Both frozen and hot meal deliveries are still taking place, and we are still accepting new clients. We’re happy to be able to provide this service if it means helping keep people comfortable at home during a time when social distancing is so important.
Over $70,000 raised for the Bobcaygeon Relief Fund
Submitted by Stewart Morrison Insurance Brokers Ltd.
Businesses across Kawartha Lakes are showing tremendous leadership by pledging over $70,000 since the fund announcement last week to help with the urgent needs of those impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We’re so grateful that those who can in the community have stepped up and come together to help support the patients, loved ones, and healthcare workers dealing with the devastation of the virus. I want to personally thank the companies and individuals who have already donated,” said Marlene Morrison Nicholls, Stewart Morrison Insurance president and founding director of the Community Foundation of Kawartha Lakes.
Social Distancing Cleaning
Submitted by Kathy Armstrong
Wondering what to do in this time of social distancing now that the house is organized and there are only sports re-runs on TV? Or what to do with the kids? How about cleaning up the roadsides when you are out for a walk? Don't worry, it's not crowded. Grab a pair of gloves and 3 bags and sort as you pick up - a bag each for beer cans, plastic recycling and garbage. Here's what we have collected on country roads in our neighbourhood.

Staying Connected in Difficult Times
Submitted by Marina Hodson
Well, we are three weeks into the current measures and, speaking personally, every day continues to feel new and strange. I hope that whilst you continue to practice physical social-distancing to reduce the spread, you are able to remain in contact with loved ones and take this opportunity to reach out to someone who may need someone to check on them. We may not be able to go visit, but that certainly does not mean that we should not practice random acts of kindness or reach out to those who are struggling during this difficult time.
Acts of Kindness
A quick search of “good news websites” brings up lots of suggestions but they lack Canadian and local content. We know there are lots of good news stories and acts of kindness right here in Fenelon Falls so we’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s a curbside birthday greetings, sidewalk free pantries, buying a meal for a healthcare worker, or delivering groceries for someone in self isolation, every kind act matters. Flood our inbox (submissions@explorefenelonfalls.com) or the Explore Fenelon Falls page with your stories and ideas so we can spread the sunshine and laughter. Let’s keep the heart for Fenelon beating strong.
Country Cupboard Introduces Door Service
Submitted by Julia Taylor
Customers can now place orders online or over the phone for pick up and delivery to Fenelon Falls, Coboconk, and the Bobcaygeon areas. We have introduced this free service to give access to our products to those who have limitations with mobility, transportation, and time. We know it can be hard to make an extra stop with our busy lives or get into Fenelon when you don’t have transportation, or just to get out of the house if you have mobility issues, but we also know that people want to reduce waste, cost, and time, and we can do all of those things for you with this new service at Country Cupboard.

Kawartha Lakes Country Living Show Reschedules for June 2020
Mark your calendars — the 36th annual Kawartha Lakes Country Living Show has been rescheduled for June 19-21, 2020. This decision was made with the overall hope that our lives will have a sense of normalcy by then and based on the availability of the Fenelon Falls Community Centre.
The Country Living Show committee is taking every necessary precaution and continues to monitor our current situation amidst the global pandemic. Any advisement provided by government or health officials will be taken into account to ensure that the event can run safely and smoothly. The number one priority of the Fenelon Falls Chamber of Commerce and the Country Living Show committee is the safety of our vendors, visitors, and volunteers.
Celebrate Easter at Home and Win!
This year we have had to make changes to our community Easter Eggstravaganza event. While we are all at home trying to make the best of our new situation, we wanted to help entertain you from the comfort of your living room. On Thursday, April 9th, an Easter-themed activity package will be released in the Town Crier!
We also want to encourage residents and businesses to put up a picture of an Easter Egg in this window for passers-by to see. We look forward to seeing what everyone creates! By posting your window eggs or activity package creations on Facebook or Instagram with #ExploreFenelonFalls, you are eligible to win one of five $25 gift certificates to a local business of your choice!

Take the Opportunity — Make the Opportunity
Submitted by Anna Kulmala
This is an unprecedented time in our world. There is so much fear and uncertainty.
Mr. Rogers said "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”’ I remember this every day as I scroll through newsfeeds, listen to stories, and read news clips. It is all very frightening for so many people. Fear breeds and grows like wildfire as we’ve seen with food and supply hoarding all over the country. But the helpers are there, too. I have been gratified to see many people offering assistance to others, businesses taking extra steps to help seniors and offering delivery to those unable to venture out at this time.

A Coronavirus Update from Kawartha North Family Health Team
Submitted by Marina Hodson
No! Not more about the Coronavirus…
I have no doubt that you are just about ready to never hear the words Coronavirus or COVID-19 again, I know I am. Unfortunately, these are difficult and unprecedented times and ignoring the facts will not help anyone. Of course, there is so much information and it changes so rapidly, that it can be difficult to find out what the facts actually are. Well at the time of writing this is what we know and what it may mean for you.
#HeartForFenelon
Submitted by Marylee Boston
Small towns are known for their community spirit and Fenelon Falls is no different. We are privileged to have a strong business community, a variety of health care services, schools, churches, festivals, events, hard-working volunteers and of course beautiful scenery. So it’s no surprise during these unprecedented times that business owners and residents are stepping up to help neighbours and community members. In support of these individual efforts we launched #HeartForFenelon. The goal is to support our businesses, the community and to celebrate kindness. You’ll also find links to current info about COVID 19 on our website.
