Two Fenelon Falls Secondary School Students Commit to the McMaster University Football Program
On February 16, representatives from McMaster University visited Fenelon Falls Secondary School (FFSS) to sign two students to their football program.
Rural Zoning By-Law Consolidation
As highlighted in the recent news release, three Public Open Houses will be hosted in support of the first draft of the City's new Rural Zoning By-law - these changes will impact waterfront properties! City staff and the project consultant will be presenting an introduction to the draft, highlights on new and updated sections, and collect comments and questions pertaining to the document. These sessions will be held via Zoom from 6:30PM to 8:30PM on Tuesday, March 1, Thursday, March 3, and Wednesday, March 9.
Committee of Council Volunteer Opportunities for Kawartha Lakes Residents
Citizen positions on Committees of Council provide Kawartha Lakes residents with an opportunity to volunteer their time in various activities associated with local government. There are openings for three members in two different committees: Kawartha Lakes Municipal Heritage Committee + Fenelon Landfill Public Review Committee.
Family Day Chili Contest
The Brewery had a special event for family day. It included a 6 pack of Fenelon Brewery beer and 4 containers with chili marked only A,B,C, D. Four local restaurants were competing in the chili taste competition. Here we see Ava Bergeron and her friends, Emma, Karina and Gabrielle with their chili grading sheet. We know what their favourites were but we haven’t seen the final published results. Who had the most votes for best chili? The Cow & Sow? Ziraldos? The Lotus Bistro? Or The Locker? We need to know!!! Results will be announced Friday February 25.

COVID-19 Mass Immunization Clinics Readying to Close as Vaccination Numbers Rise
With the majority of eligible residents in the region having already received their booster dose, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit (HKPRDHU) will be closing its mass immunization clinics located at the Lindsay Exhibition (LEX) on February 25 and at the Cobourg Community Centre (CCC) on February 26.
Continuing Improvements to Key Public Health Indicators Allow for Easing of Public Health Measures
Even as more provincial COVID-19 restrictions are lifted in coming days, residents are being asked to keep up the “tried-and-true prevention efforts” that continue to work. As of 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, February 17, the Ontario government is increasing the size of social gatherings and easing capacity limits in most businesses.

The Parks and Recreation Division will offer a variety of Public Skating opportunities on Monday February 22 for Family Day. ‘It Happens Here Too!’: Public Awareness Campaign Launched to Prevent Sex Trafficking in Kawartha Lakes
Building on past prevention efforts locally, Women’s Resources this week launched the first-ever formal, social media campaign to raise public awareness about sex trafficking in Kawartha Lakes. Women’s Resources Kawartha Lakes and Kawartha-Haliburton Victim Services report having provided services related to human trafficking to some 40-60 women in the Kawartha Lakes area.

Amphibian and Reptile Road Ecology: Threats and Conservation Solutions
Nature is abundant in the Kawarthas, but so is the demise of many critters on our roads. Especially in the spring, from early April, amphibians like frogs and salamanders are run over as they attempt to cross roads to get to wetlands where they lay eggs; turtles that lay eggs on the sunny edge of roads, and snakes that warm themselves directly on asphalt are also prime targets.
