2020 Canada Day Celebration Cancelled in Fenelon Falls

Submitted by Doug Elmslie

Councillor Doug Elmslie, Canada Day Committee Chair, advises that the current COVID-19 crisis had forced the cancellation of Canada Day in the village this year. There was simply no way that we could organize an event that would protect the health and safety of participants, volunteers and comply with current virus restrictions. These safeguards were a priority in keeping the community safe.

Celebrating Canada Day has been a meaningful tradition in the Village and we encourage all residents to celebrate Canada’s 153rd birthday at home in a safe environment.

To mark our national birthday in the Village this year your Canada Day Committee is considering planting a Maple tree and dedicating it to all those affected by COVID-19. This tree will serve as a living monument to first responders, medical community, essential workers and businesses. You will hear more about this in the coming weeks when we have a fuller picture of costs and location.

As we continue our COVID journey please take care and stay safe.
