100 Men of Kawartha Lakes

Submitted by Brad Campkin

My name is Brad and I would like to share my story about the 100 Men of Kawartha Lakes. I have met so many great local guys and feel very fortunate as they have welcomed me into the community. It seems like everyone knows each other and often have grown up together in the area. From Bobcaygeon to Fenelon Falls and everywhere in between. We are a super group of local, caring men that have collectively donated $34,900 as of March 2020!

We hope all our seniors in the wider community of Fenelon Falls are coping as well as can be expected during these uncertain times of COVID-19. When we introduced our second Literary Contest for Seniors earlier in the year, open to those 55 years plus in the community, one could never imagine the circumstances that reflect our “new normal” just a few short months later. Submissions will be accepted from residents of Fenelon Falls and vicinity. We have extended the submission deadline to 6:00pm September 25, 2020.

The Caring and Connecting Kawartha Lakes Initiative

Submitted by Caleb Kim

Want to lend a helping hand in your community while practicing social distancing? Retirement and long-term care homes in Ontario have been on lockdown for quite some time now. This means that, unlike a lot of us, many residents haven't been able to have any family and friends visit, which can make this an incredibly lonely and depressing time.

There were some exciting things happening around Balsam Lake today despite this rotten virus. Dean Michel and his wife from Balsam's North Bay initiated a "jump in the lake challenge" to raise money for the Coboconk Food Bank which was experiencing shortages because of the virus. Barb Young from Rosedale took on the challenge and raised approx. $1500.00 for the food bank.

MPP Laurie Scott Hosted Virtual Roundtable

Submitted by the office of Laurie Scott, MPP

It’s a sign of the times. Two months ago local Chambers of Commerce and other small businesses would have met in a local coffee shop, restaurant, boutique or other store to share ideas and concerns on what the province could do to help local business. Instead, the world has had to get creative.

These are such uncertain times for many, including our Fenelon Falls Farmers’ Market. Our plans for opening on May 15th have been put on hold for now.
