Sections of the Victoria Rail Trail closed September 20-27, 2023
Sections of the Victoria Rail Trail in Fenelon Falls between Victory Grove Road and Thorn Street will be closed for Ash and hazard tree removal on weekdays along the trail beginning Wednesday September 20 through Wednesday September 27 during the hours of 7am and 3pm.
Waste Management fall diversion program reminders
Kawartha Lakes is excited to share some of the great diversion programs available to residents this fall through the Waste Management division, like curbside textile recycling, winter landfill hours and seasonal road collection, fall curbside leaf and yard waste collection, woodchip (mulch) and compost giveaway, paint reuse program, mattress recycling program, bulky plastic recycling program.

Curbside textile recycling will return for Kawartha Lakes residents in October. The purpose of curbside textile recycling is to help divert clothing, footwear and linens from ending up in our landfills.

Crafting Ontario Opens at Colborne Street Gallery
Join us for the reception on Saturday, September 9th from 2-5pm at Colborne Street Gallery as we open Crafting Ontario: A Showcase of Contemporary Work from Across the Province. It’s a group exhibition of Craft Ontario Artists; the exhibit runs from August 17 – October 29, 2023, and is a partnership between Craft Ontario and Colborne Street Gallery.

Introducing Recipe Revival – Celebrating our Heritage Through Food
Kawartha Lakes has a rich history influenced by the region’s Indigenous heritage, immigration patterns, agricultural and industrial heritage, and natural assets. Around these themes, there are many unique and memorable food stories worth sharing with locals and visitors alike. Through the Recipe Revival project, recipes will be collected from community submissions and the City of Kawartha Lakes archives. By bringing these recipes back to life, the program ensures that the flavours and stories of the past continue to inspire present and future generations.

Community Volunteers Working Together
A Food Handling Certification Course has been arranged between the Health Unit and the Seniors Club. Verda has arranged for this course to take place at the club on Thursday September 21st from 9 to 4. Pre-registration is required by September 11th. Although this course is open to all, in recognition of the important role volunteers play in our society the $40.00 fee for the course will be waived to any volunteer who provides us with a letter from an organization they are currently volunteering with.

Traffic Control Box Art Contest - Submissions Close Tomorrow
Individual artists can submit to have their artwork juried for the 2023 Traffic Control Box (TCB) Call for submissions. Deadline for submissions is TOMORROW - August 18th. You may use art that you have already created so there’s no need to craft new pieces for the contest. Winners will be paid for their art and be featured on the control box and in the municipal calendar.
