The Royal Canadian legion Announces their Third Annual Literary Contest for Seniors
The restrictions in force respecting COVID-19 have impacted all our lives for almost a year. Many of us have much more time on our hands with no place to go or no one to visit. What better way to spend some of those hours than creating a poem, story or a biography of your life that might become a family treasure. Take heart Shakespeare wrote King Lear, Macbeth and Antony & Cleopatra during a plague lockdown in the early 1600’s hence you are in good company.

A Taste of Spring!
Submission by Vicky Groves of the Fenelon Falls Horticultural Society. As the sun gets stronger, are you starting to think “Spring”? Is the idea of gardening beginning to enter your mind? Have you considered joining the Fenelon Falls Horticultural Society to get some new ideas or maybe to participate with other like-minded individuals to not only beautify Fenelon but also to learn new approaches to gardening in your own yard, to educate in the community and/or to contribute to environmental restoration and preservation? We welcome new members and hope you will consider joining us!

The History of St. James Church
Submitted by Bev Jeeves. John W. Gardner, a pioneer for the “Common Cause Movement” in the second half of the 20th century, said, “History never looks like history when you are living through it.” Sometimes as we research history we don’t see what is relevant. History is found in many places in a community. We each have our family records and memorabilia. Local museums hold artifacts and archives of a community and provide exhibits. Regional, provincial and national archives hold vast amounts of records both physically and digitally for us to research and explore either in person, or during Covid-19, online. Fenelon Falls was just honoured with a second updated printing of “Fenelon Then and Now” which was sold out before it hit the pavement.

Spiced-Up Chili by TheDevineKitchen
A delicious chilli with a spice blend that lends its own personality and depth of flavour.
You won’t taste the cocoa powder or the cinnamon, but it elevates the flavour three-fold. The pimento makes the chilli taste as if it cooked for hours.

Everyday is International Women's Day in Fenelon Falls
International Women’s Day is taking place on Monday, March 8th. The theme this year is #Choosetochallenge. Choose to challenge the world, and with that comes change. International Women’s Day was first honoured in 1911 by Austria, Denmark, Switzerland, and Germany. Men and Women attended rallies that campaigned for Women’s rights to work, vote, and end discrimination. On the eve of WWI, Russian Women campaigned for peace and observed their first International Women’s Day. In 1975, International Women’s Day was celebrated for the first time by the United Nations. Fast forward to 2021, the world has witnessed a significant change in society’s view on Women’s emancipation and equality. We have Female astronauts, Prime Ministers, and beyond that, Women have rights!
In our village, we have a web of Female owned businesses, a majority of Women sitting on boards, Volunteering, and a plethora of opportunities for young girls to pursue their dreams with strong Female role models as guides. It is incredible to see the shift in the world's perspective on Women, and how far Women have come since 1911. I believe the biggest change starts at home, and what is truly inspiring is the number of Women who have grown our village and strengthened our community in outstanding ways. This article is to highlight some of the amazing Women in Fenelon Falls who have all contributed to the advancements Women have made in society over the years. Our Women thrive each and every day. This progress will continue if we “think globally, act locally, and make everyday International Women’s Day”!

Is It Over Yet?
Submitted by Marina Hodson. Whilst I personally love winter for its beauty, its silence and the winter activities, even I have to admit that as we approach March, I am yearning for some green. But don’t despair – you can enjoy the beauty of winter and the benefits of plants at the same time.
