Celebrate Canada Day the 2020 Way
Submitted by City of Kawartha Lakes
Although our traditional Canada Day plans are cancelled this year, that does not mean we cannot still celebrate all things Canada. From social circle barbecues to patriotic lawn décor, join in on the fun by sharing with us how you are celebrating Canada Day the 2020 way. You could be featured in a Canada Day video compilation the municipality is putting together. Throughout the week, show us how you plan to celebrate Canada Day and take part in the three ways to show how we are all #KawarthaLakesStrong.
COPE Service Dogs Moto Synergy Mystery Ride 2020
Submitted by Kim Jeffery
COPE Service Dogs is a non-profit organization located in Barrie but service the southern Ontario area. We raise and train dogs to be placed with people with mobility issues. What makes us different is our dogs are trained by high school students that are at risk of dropping out of school. As you can imagine we have a very long waiting list of Life Partners needing dogs. COVID-19 has made it difficult to fundraise, but I think we have come up with a fantastic idea. Please check out our Moto Synergy Mystery Ride 2020.

Rotary Club of Fenelon Falls Classic Car Draw Sells Out For First Time Since 2002
Submitted by Randy Johnson
The Rotary Club of Fenelon Falls Classic Car draw was a sell-out for the first time since 2002. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all who have made this year a success for us. We had to postpone the last 2 draws for $500.00 due to the Virus but we did make them with Gary Chambers from Port Dover, ONT and Gregory Turner from Conquerall Banks, NS each winning. We were able to hold the draw for the 1970 Dodge Challenger early this year due to the sell-out and Doug Simkins of Owen Sound, Ontario was the big winner. He was really happy to get the call late at night telling him he had won.

Volunteer Effort Brightens up the Fenelon Bridge
Many spots in town - including the bridge over the falls - got a little brighter this past week after a huge collective effort from local volunteers worked to install and plant beautiful flower boxes and baskets around town. Spearheaded by Julia Taylor and Marylee Boston on behalf of the Fenelon Falls and District Chamber of Commerce, the mission to beautify our community spaces relies on the volunteer efforts of a huge group of people. Julia and Marylee would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who pitched in to make this project come together this summer.

Graduates of 2020, this year you have had to face many obstacles and hardships that have affected the 2020 school year. Even though your graduation is going to look different, the achievement is still the same. You’ve put in the same hard work. You’ve learned and grown so much- and your community couldn’t be more proud. At Slices N’ Scoops we wanted to spread some cheer by offering a free single waffle cone to any grade 8 or 12 graduate (Grade 12, ID required). We hope that this will put a smile on your face and remind you that your community stands behind you. Congratulations to the graduates of 2020 on your well-deserved success and best wishes for your next adventure!

2020 Canada Day Celebration Cancelled in Fenelon Falls
Councillor Doug Elmslie, Canada Day Committee Chair, advises that the current COVID-19 crisis had forced the cancellation of Canada Day in the village this year. There was simply no way that we could organize an event that would protect the health and safety of participants, volunteers and comply with current virus restrictions. These safeguards were a priority in keeping the community safe.
If COVID has you going stir crazy, check out this little gem on Sturgeon Lake
Submitted by Christa LeCraw
One of the first activities to reopen in the wake of our collective lockdown was golf, because it’s a sport perfectly suited for the times in which we find ourselves. You can play alone, with your partner or in a physically distanced group of friends. You can play for the first time, or as a weekly ritual. You can play with your kids, grandkids, parents, or grandparents. In these uncertain times, golf might just be the thing to get you back into the swing of summer.
The New Normal?
Submitted by Marina Hodson
Month four and while the seasons move on, life feels a bit like it’s at a standstill. That being said, tomorrow the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Health Unit, along with many others, will be moving into Phase II of the reopening. So whilst we are all looking forward to a haircut, what does this really mean??
Residents of Rosedale Hosting Truckload Rain Barrel Fundraiser
Submitted by Jenny Scott
Please support a local project- the Rosedale Boat Launch Reconstruction. This is the busiest boat launch in the Kawarthas and has not had any maintenance since the mid-1960s. There is shoreline erosion, potholes in the exit ramp and a hazardous underwater berm with the potential to damage motors, if not corrected. This is a costly project- approximately $50,000 needs to be community raised. The ‘Residents of Rosedale’ have taken this project on.
